BACKGROUND

A well-respected name within the game, Malcolm Crosby is a man who knows football and has a wealth of wisdom and experience to offer.

As a player, his career has spanned well over a decade, earning 293 appearances for Aldershot, scoring 24 goals. Warmly regarded as a consummate professional by fellow pros and managers alike for his dedicated and industrious manner. With these attributes, a career in management was a natural transition for Malcolm and one he made in 1984, when he became assistant to Dennis Smith at York City.

His reputation as a coach grew quickly, gaining his UEFA Pro Coaching License and securing a move into an assistant role at Sunderland in 1988. Malcolm made such an impression at Sunderland that he was handed the manager’s job on an interim basis in 1991. In his first managerial position, Malcolm was able to fully demonstrate his abilities and led, what was a struggling side, to Wembley and the FA Cup final and was subsequently offered the job on a full-time basis.

Malcolm gained invaluable experience working alongside some of the best coaches and managers in the English game. Working firstly with Jim Smith at Oxford and then with Steve McLaren at Middlesbrough, where he became an integral part of the back room staff that guided the side to the UEFA Cup Final. Such success led to Steve McLaren being made England Manager with former England International Gareth Southgate assuming the Middlesbrough job. Southgate’s first move was to promote Malcolm to assistant manager.

Crosby left Middlesbrough following their relegation from the Premier League, but given his ability and reputation, Southgate was confident “Malcolm would find a job in football soon”. He did, hired by the FA, who used Malcolm’s encyclopaedic knowledge and understanding of the game to scout England’s upcoming international opponents.

His desire to be involved in the day-to-day engagement of club management lured him towards Northampton, where he is currently the assistant manager. Malcolm again impressed everyone, helping to revive a struggling club in danger of relegation onto more stable footing.

Malcolm has recently made several TV appearances and wishes to develop his punditry further and share his opinions with an even wider audience through public appearances and speaking opportunities. His charisma, guile and vast understanding of the game make him the ideal character to feature on any football panel or as a standalone pundit.
