BACKGROUND

Dave Jones is a former professional footballer and current manager and pundit. During his playing career he enjoyed successful spells at Everton, Coventry City, Seiko and Preston North End. Following his retirement from professional football Dave has managed Stockport County, Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and is currently manager of Cardiff City.

A defender, Dave began his career at his home town club Everton. He stayed at Everton for seven years before joining Coventry City in 1981. While at Coventry Dave suffered a serious knee injury which threatened to end his playing career. Fortunately Dave recovered from this injury and subsequently went on loan to Seiko in Hong Kong. In Dave's first season Seiko won the league championship and the Hong Kong FA Cup. The following season Dave signed to Seiko and was selected to appear in a special Hong Kong League XI match against Monaco. Dave then returned to England, signing for Preston North End. He remained at Preston for one season making 50 appearances before retiring from professional football.

Following his retirement Dave began his managerial career as assistant manager to Bryan Griffths at Southport and then Mossley A.F.C. In 1990 Dave joined Stockport County as manager of their youth team before taking over as first team manager in 1995. Dave led Stockport County into the First Division and to a League Cup Semi-Final.

Dave's success at Stockport brought him to the attention of Premier League side Southampton. Dave's time at Southampton was cut short and in January 2001 he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the summer of 2001 Dave set about transforming the squad bringing in a host of new players. Under Dave's guidance Wolves made an immediate impact on the league. Following a run of 10 wins from 11 games Dave was named Manager of the Month in February 2002. Just missing out on an automatic promotion to the Premier League Wolves lost out to Norwich City in the Play-Off Semi Final. However the following season Wolves overcame Sheffield United in the Play-Off Final earning them a place in the Premier League for the first time since 1984.

In 2004 Dave took charge of Cardiff City and set about rebuilding the squad and transforming them into Championship contenders. In 2008 Dave led Cardiff City to an FA Cup Final at Wembley narrowly losing to Premier League side Portsmouth. Dave continued to build on this success the following season picking up Championship Manager of the Month for October and guiding Cardiff to their highest league position for 38 years. In the 2009/10 season Dave once again led Cardiff to the Play Offs this time losing out to Blackpool in the Final at Wembley. Having got off to a great start Dave and his Cardiff squad continue to push for automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
